Overall Project Synopsis
Located in Issaquah, WA, this outdoor lighting project was completed in 2023 as a custom outdoor lighting design and installation by Northwest Outdoor Lighting. The system includes 46 low voltage LED fixtures, all set in Sunset Tone to create a warm and cohesive nighttime environment. Designed with both structure and flow in mind, the lighting enhances the architecture, defines movement throughout the landscape, and creates a balanced and inviting experience after dark.
The design begins with a clear focus on how the property is used and experienced at night. Through a carefully planned layout, each fixture placement responds to pathways, planting beds, and key architectural features. The goal was to create a lighting system that feels intuitive, where each transition is naturally guided and every space is connected. This approach ensures that the lighting supports both safety and visual continuity across the entire property.
Pathway lighting plays a central role in this project. A series of evenly spaced fixtures guide movement from the driveway through the front approach and into the backyard areas. Rather than creating a continuous line of light, the fixtures are positioned to establish rhythm and direction, allowing the eye to move comfortably through the space. This method improves visibility while maintaining a clean and refined appearance.
The front entry and architectural elements are enhanced through controlled illumination. Step lighting provides clarity and safety along transitions, while surrounding fixtures highlight the form and structure of the home. The lighting is carefully aimed to avoid glare, ensuring that the focus remains on the architecture rather than the fixtures themselves. This level of precision is essential in creating an outdoor lighting design that feels intentional and well integrated.
Planting beds and landscape features are layered with subtle lighting to introduce depth and texture. Uplights are used to accent trees and larger plantings, creating vertical interest and framing the home within the landscape. Lower plant material is illuminated with restraint, maintaining balance and preventing the space from feeling overlit. This layering technique allows the property to feel dimensional and cohesive without overwhelming the natural setting.
In the backyard and garden areas, lighting extends the usability of the space into the evening. Gathering areas, pathways, and transitions are illuminated to support both everyday use and entertaining. The use of Sunset Tone throughout ensures that the entire property maintains a consistent warmth, enhancing the natural materials and creating a comfortable atmosphere.
The schematic design reflects a thoughtful approach to both current use and future potential. Fixture placement considers not only the existing landscape, but how the property may evolve over time. This forward thinking design ensures that the system remains adaptable while continuing to deliver a high level of performance.
This Issaquah outdoor lighting project represents Northwest Outdoor Lighting’s approach to custom outdoor lighting design and installation in the Seattle area. With 46 fixtures placed with precision and intention, the system enhances safety, highlights key features, and creates a seamless transition from day to night. The result is a property that feels complete, functional, and beautifully illuminated.

Front Elevation Lighting: Before and After
Thoughtful outdoor lighting transforms both visibility and design, bringing structure, depth, and a welcoming presence to the home after dark.
Before
The home’s architectural presence and layered landscape were not visible after dark. The driveway, entry, and surrounding planting beds lacked definition, causing the property to feel flat and disconnected from the street. Without lighting, key features such as the stonework, trees, and elevation changes were lost, and the transition from curb to entry lacked clarity and direction.
After
A carefully layered outdoor lighting design reveals the full depth and character of the home. Warm Sunset Tone illumination highlights the architecture, enhances the texture of the stone and wood, and frames the property with softly lit trees and planting beds. The driveway and entry are now clearly defined, creating a welcoming and intuitive approach. The result is a balanced and cohesive nighttime environment that enhances both safety and the overall presence of the home.
