Laurelhurst Outdoor Lighting
Located in the established Laurelhurst neighborhood of Seattle, this outdoor lighting project was designed to enhance both the natural landscape and the way the home is experienced after dark. Completed in 2022, the project included an evening demonstration, custom outdoor lighting design, and full installation by Northwest Outdoor Lighting. A total of 34 Sunset Tone fixtures were placed throughout the property to create a cohesive and inviting nighttime environment that feels natural to its surroundings.
The process began with an on-site evening demonstration, allowing the homeowners to see how light interacts with their property in real time. This step is essential in custom outdoor lighting design because it informs placement, beam spread, and intensity based on how the space is actually used at night. In a Seattle landscape like Laurelhurst, where mature trees and layered plantings define the property, thoughtful placement ensures that the lighting enhances rather than competes with the environment. The goal was to create clarity and depth while maintaining a calm and residential feel.
Pathways and stair transitions became a key focus within the design. Carefully placed lighting defines each step and walkway, improving safety while maintaining a soft and low glare effect. The lighting guides movement naturally through the property without drawing attention to the fixtures themselves. This approach is central to professional landscape lighting design in Seattle, where subtlety and control create a more refined result than overly bright or exposed fixtures.
Throughout the garden, lighting was layered to bring out texture and dimension. Mature trees are gently uplighted to reveal their structure and canopy, creating vertical interest and a sense of depth. Lower plantings and ground level elements are accented with restraint, allowing the landscape to feel balanced and cohesive. The result is an environment that feels immersive and complete without appearing overlit.
Outdoor living areas were designed to extend usability into the evening. Deck spaces and transitions are illuminated to support both function and comfort, while maintaining a consistent visual flow from the home into the surrounding landscape. Lighting is integrated into the architecture wherever possible, preserving clean lines and ensuring the system feels intentional and unobtrusive.
The use of Sunset Tone lighting plays a significant role in the overall design. This warmer color temperature enhances the natural materials of the home and landscape while creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. It also reduces glare and visual strain, which is especially important for residential outdoor lighting in Seattle neighborhoods like Laurelhurst. The result is a lighting system that feels timeless and appropriate to the setting.
This Laurelhurst outdoor lighting project reflects Northwest Outdoor Lighting’s approach to custom lighting design and installation in Seattle, WA. Every fixture is placed with purpose, every layer is considered, and the final result is a property that transitions seamlessly from day to night while maintaining its character and livability.
