A Vision Crafted with Light
At Northwest Outdoor Lighting, our goal is to enhance and embrace the natural beauty of each landscape with subtle, effective illumination. For this Tacoma property, our approach was to highlight the artistic and natural elements seamlessly. The garden, an eclectic mix of ferns, weeping willows, and a striking grove of white birches, presented unique challenges and opportunities for our lighting design.
Our strategy was to use lighting not just as a functional element but as an artistic tool that accentuates the groves, textures, and sculptures throughout the property. Each lighting fixture was chosen and placed with precision, ensuring that it blends with the natural environment while enhancing the homeowner’s impressive collection of sculptures and art pieces.
Collaborative Excellence
The success of this project can be largely attributed to the collaborative spirit shared between the homeowners and our team. The homeowners, with no formal training in horticulture or landscaping, have curated a garden that thrives in its shaded, water-rich environment. Their hands-on approach and keen eye for art have led them to collect unique pieces that resonate with the property's aesthetic. Noteworthy among these is the "Toadhenge" sculpture by Will Robinson, which integrates seamlessly into the landscape, further highlighted by our strategic lighting.
We aimed to create a lighting scheme that not only illuminates the garden and the beautiful art pieces by Will Robinson but also complements and enhances the overall architectural and sculptural elements designed by Kermit Swartz and Trevor Wittenberg. This included integrating lighting into newly installed features such as the deck and water feature off the front door, designed by Swartz and Wittenberg.
Continuous Evolution
The landscape at this Tacoma home is ever-evolving, with recent additions including a renovation of the back deck to mirror the stylings of the front. This ongoing development provides us with the exciting opportunity to revisit and adapt our lighting installations to new elements and modifications, ensuring that the lighting always complements the evolving beauty of the garden.
